The Stratford Festival

The Festival is almost upon us and the events are finally planned and ready. For this Festival, there has been a lot of work going on behind the scenes to improve upon the 2006 Festival.

Particularly the School participation and the extensive Village History displays will undoubtedly raise much interest so do take the opportunity to visit. As these displays are in the new School Hall, it will be the first opportunity for most villagers to view the building since it was put up!

The Art Exhibition and the Flower Festival (open on Saturday and Sunday) will again form a central part of Weekend and will both showcase the wealth of artistic talent that abounds in our village All the displays, the Art Exhibition and the Flower Festival are free so do make space to visit!

The Wine and Cheese Walk round three gardens on Thursday 3rd July is an innovation for this Festival so as well as sampling some wines and suitably appropriate cheeses, you will get view the gardens at Avonside, Pittsmead Cottage and The Parsonage with a glass of wine in hand! You can start at whichever garden is most convenient and then gently progress to the other two.

The out door Jazz Evening on Friday 4th July on American Independence Day will be held at Deans Farm and promises to be spectacular! If wet we shall use the marquee in the field behind the Reading Room. Bishop Atot and his wife from the Sudan will be attending.

The Hog Roast and Musical Cabaret on Saturday 5th July will take place in the field behind the Reading Room and we hope that this will be as successful as it was in 2006. The marquee will be used for this function so we are proof against the weather should it turn out to be less than summery!

Finally, don’t forget the Patronal Evensong on Sunday, at which Bishop Atot will preach, with tea afterwards in Mawarden Court garden.

Tickets are selling well but are still available for all paid events. Simply call me or Jo on 327120 to reserve.
