The village of Stratford-sub-Castle and the church lie within Salisbury city boundaries, the parish extends further to the north and includes the ancient monument of Old Sarum, the old fortified site of the cathedral city of Sarum.

The community today is based on the church. There is a gardening society. No "pub", no shop, a handful of small business located in farm yards. Salisbury city is less than 2 miles distant which is where the population go for shopping and entertainment. Property is much sought after, there is currently one house for sale in the village.
